Shantel & Bukowina Club
Shantel began his DJ career in Frankfurt, Germany, and was inspired by the audience reaction to gypsy brass bands such as Fanfare Ciocarlia and trumpeter Boban Markovic to infuse electronically tweaked Balkan gypsy music into his DJ set. Shantel released two compilations of his popular DJ night, Bucovina Club, on his own Essay label, which won the Club Global award in the 2006 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music. He was one of several DJs to remix recordings of Taraf de Haïdouks and Kocani Orkestar on the Electric Gypsyland compilations from Belgium's Crammed Discs label, and released his next album on that label. He gained popularity in Turkey after recording the clip of 'Disko Partizani' in Istanbul. Shantel's 2007 album Disko Partizani departed somewhat from the techno sound of Bucovina Club, concentrating more on the music's Balkan roots In 2011 he released an album with Oz Almog named Kosher Nostra Jewish Gangsters Greatest Hits. This album is a wild mix of Swing, Jazz, Twist, Charleston and Yiddish songs and Ballads.

[Favourite Mavericks] Pascal Comelade: 1999 Jazzfest Stuttgart
Damned, I'm pretty sure there's a DVD in the archives with that concert, but I have problems finding that special treasure, So I only can provide a rip of the tape I then recorded, No tracklist (shame on me! No time to do that now)
I learned about the guy from a 2 hours german radio feature by Karl Lippegaus (btw: if you speak german, you may enjoy my radio-feature archive at archive.org) and as always when Karl proposes stuff he runs through an open door because I loved that name before or he hit perfectly my taste.
So Pascal (who - fun fact - lives near the place I spent 22 years of my holidays in the french pyrenees as - fun fact - Karl also does the one half of the year ,,,) became one of my very, very, very favourite mavericks and a "shibboleth" like ie. Kevin Coyne or Moondog - drop his name in my presence and you have a friend more ;)

Sharing some very fine stuff found @ T.U.B.E.
Sorry, hit by some food-ingredient my body didn't appreciate and spending most of the recent days in bed, today just two things, I found at T.U.B.E. that I really enjoyed and that I play under earphones so loud that I (almost) missed the phone call my "Tea-Mistress" Miss Wang, my very best & beloved friend. Almost - sending her a copy of the show she asked why I didn't heard her calling. Signs & miracles ;) If you ever visit Berlin try to be part of one of her gungfu cha tea-sessions - she really knows how to brew a very fine tea!
Edge just posted a very great FLAC version of this show - almost 2 hours of one of my youths' favourite bands. I remember well having seen them at the "Beatclub" with "I'm A Man"
Even my very personal favourite from the band is not included in the show
Another fine pick from T.U.B.E. that comes these days is a six CD's pack of the Monterey Pop Festival
So, hats off to Edge, who really understands how to make me happy!

Simon Coxe is dead
Silver Apples were an American electronic rock group from New York, active between 1967 and 1970, before reforming in the mid-1990s. It was composed of Simeon (born Simeon Oliver Coxe III, June 4, 1938 – September 8, 2020), who performed on a primitive Synthesizer of his own devising; and, until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The duo were among the first to employ electronic music techniques outside of academia, applying them to 1960s rock and pop styles
As part of New York's underground music scene, the band released two albums—Silver Apples (1968) and Contact (1969)—to poor sales. They began recording a third album before a lawsuit by Pan Am, owing to the use of their logo in the artwork of Contact, forced the end of the group and its label Kapp in 1970 In the 1990s, German bootleg recordings of the band's albums raised their profile, and Simeon reformed the group with other musicians and released new music In 1998, he reconnected with Taylor, and the two completed their original third LP The Garden (1998) After Taylor's death, Simeon continued releasing Silver Apples projects using samples of Taylor's drumming.
