A day in the life (40 years ago)

 Europe 1980. Pre-Schengen treaty. Borders. D-Mark & Francs ...

Living aside the frontier not really knowing what happens "on the other side". No newspaper, no fanzine, no local magazine I was aware of then shouting out loud "THE CLASH+THE CURE+KEVIN COYNE+ROXY MUSIC!!!" play a festival near you, just cross the damned border and enjoy your fav bands at time. Even UFO! Okay, they weren't no longer the "Prince Kajuku" space rockers i once loved.

If only one german source would have told me about that festival but there was none... but reading french magazines, especially the legendary "Rock & Folk" (enough Stuff for a very, very big fandom-post ...) was helpfull: they made me aware and asking friends, if they were interested. Sad truth: No one was - we were younger then and even loving the bands most of us with no money in our pockets. Not for a "commercial" festival while working organizing our first free festival at the so called "Hinterwald". 

To the Püttlingen part of the scene, the punky-reggae-party section, younger folks, The Clash (they just released "London Calling") and The Cure (just transforming themselves with "Seven Seconds" into a more goth-style) were common sense, the Köllerbach-section, most of them elder Deadheads, needed "Sandinista" with the well beloved Mikey Dread to warm up with the Clash. Long story short: I couldn't find no one to come with me so I had to go alone there (only company: some Mescalin ..)

And so the Festival started ... Personal highlight definitly Kevin Coyne (no record of that found yet but a longer post still ahead) .. great sets by the Clash and The Cure, Roxy Music didn't show up ... and the day ended with a car suffering on a cylinder head gasket deep in the night ...

Lads & gents, it has been a great pleasure and an unexpected honour being part of the "Voodoo Wagon" & the "Floppy Boot Stomp"-crew, but  having 111+ posts here, the time has come to say goodbye and doing one more of my own things. 

This is maybe a little bit like Mick Taylor leaving the Rolling Stones making place for Ronnie Wood ;)

As for years before I entered these wonderful rooms I'll stay as a hardcore fan & friend of "the band" - but I want to do things the way I like to handle them, no boundaries in the size of a post ie. and all in all more spontaneously, ignoring (even only projected) expectations of a big audience, more focused on my own little hinterwald universe, mixed with comics and other stuff I'm interested in.

I hope the boss will add my new blog to the blogroll as I'll do it on my "Hermetic Garage" so we can keep staying in touch.
